WE ARE YOUR CAST & BLAST HEADQUARTERS!! Our hunts take place in the wonderfully scenic Champlain and Otter Creek valley’s of Rutland & Addison counties in Vermont. Field hunts, marsh hunts, float trips & jump hunts are all options we have to offer & can be combined with the great fall fishing that this area is renowned for!
Early season duck hunts will concentrate on local ducks that have raised their young here. Mallards, Wood Ducks, Green Wing Teal, & Black Ducks will make up the bulk of our take during the month of October. Gadwall, Spoonbills & Pintails can also be encountered & are true trophies. As November arrives & brings the colder weather we expect the inland marshes & beaver ponds to ice in, we transition to open water Lake Champlain. This is where true waterfowling arrives & some great unpressured gunning can be enjoyed! Canadian Mallards & Black Ducks can move down in full force, but also bring in the Diver ducks that offer great fast paced shooting! Goldeneye, Bufflehead, Bluebills & occasionally Black Scoters & OldSquaw round out the great mixed bag that really heats up as we move into the end of the season in December!
Our upland hunts take place in the rolling farm land of Addison County & the mixed forest edge of the foothills of Rutland county. Classic New England hunting with old farm land, over grown apple orchards, logging cuts & agriculture edge all make up the mixed terrain we can plan on seeing. Ruffed Grouse (patridge here in Vermont!) , Woodcock & occasionally Cottontail rabbit are all quarry that can be expected. We plan our upland hunts from the last week of September through early November, all great hunting time with pleasant weather & great foliage viewing!
Any of these trips planned from September to the end of October can be planned in conjunction with a cast & blast option with Bass & Pike fishing or upland game hunting. We also have the opportunity for a rare treat of Pheasant hunting on a Private Preserve we have partnered with in the Champlain Valley! We have hunting areas in both the Champlain Zone & The interior Zone ( see VT Fish & Wildlife for hunting season dates) for our waterfowl hunts, giving us the option to hunt throughout the whole month of October into Mid November before many of the interior marshes & ponds lock up with ice.
We also offer limited Spring & Fall Turkey hunts! Our Turkey hunts are typical “run & gun” New England hard wood timber hunts. Spring hunts are working birds roosted & located with prior scouting, hunting those hard gobbling Toms of the Green Mountains! These hunts are during the first week of May prior to beginning our Striper season, these hunts can also be added with afternoon trout or bass fishing, making a spring Cast & Blast Option! Fall hunts are during the last week of October & first week of November. These hunts are cruising timber, trying to find flocks feeding for winter, busting them up & calling them back in. These hunts can also be combined with waterfowl our upland, options & combos are endless!
